Twitter Spam Policy

Twitter Spam Policy a Joke?

As most of us know Twitter is a good tool and a popular social media resource.  It’s amazing the number of people and the number of Tweets that travel the Twitter Network.  However, with all this popularity, usage, and diversity of users, why doesn’t Twitter have a simple yet effective Spam System in place?  Why don’t they fix an obvious issue within their network?

The other day, out of the blue, I started getting a large number of “porn spam” and “get rich spam” into my Twitter Followers section.   You know, the place where you can see who is “following your Tweets”.  Fake, nasty, and general fools that think the whole world wants to read there “get rich without a job junk” and others wanting us to pay them to “see their junk!”

I have kids.  I’m a Christian. I am happily married and understand that it takes hard work to make a living.  My kids, myself, nor my customers need to see this despicable information on my private accounts nor our company accounts at Twitter.  Thus, after fighting with the spammers and porn pushers (had 3-4 an hour at one point) I contacted support at Twitter.  Below is the response I received.  This is a direct Copy/Paste of their e-mail to me:

We do our best to remove these accounts quickly. Have you considered making your account private? support.twitter.com/articles/14016…

That was it!  There solution was to take our business account and make it private.  Now, I know in some circles it’s nice to be in an exclusive club or private group, but not when it comes to communicating with the public and with clients.  Why doesn’t Twitter have simple options to secure communications?  Why can’t they give you a simple option to opt-out of “Tweets” or “Followers” that contain a particular set of keywords or why don’t they devise a simple rating system?

Oh, how nice it would be if Twitter would care enough to provide a little protection to their users (if requested).  How nice it would be to ask that only “G” or “PG” rated “Follower Profiles” be allowed to connect to “our” profiles.  How nice it would be if young teenagers wouldn’t have to be prompted by Big Bazooms when they checkout their Twitter Follower section!

OK Twitter.  Step it up.  Change you Spam Policy to allow more realistic, family friendly, and business friendly usage.  Allow your users to opt-out of this type of spam.  Take the morality step to give your users the option to see or not see inappropriate content.  Don’t sweep it under the rug or give options that drastically defeats the main purposes to having public profiles and public communications.

As a side note.  The spam stopped.  It left as fast as it came.  Did Twitter do it?  Did the spammers get tired of me reporting them every second?  If Twitter did stop the spam, then take credit!  Don’t tell me to “considered making your account private”.

Open Multiple QuickBooks Files

Date: 20 Feb 2012 Comments: 2 so far

Did you know that if you can have more then one Quickbooks company file open at a time?

Many people don’t know that you can have more then one company file open in Quickbooks.  It’s just a matter of making sure you install the software in more then one location.

In Quickbooks 2012 you are able to install the software more then once so you can have more then one company file open.  Say you want to open Widget, Inc. and you want Acme, Inc. at the same time.  So you can do things like compare entries, or simply because you are busy in both files and it takes time to keep opening and closing the data file.

This is what you do:

1.  Install Quickbooks 2012 in more then one directory.

2.  Open your first company from the first installation.

3.  Open the second company from the second installation of Quickbooks.

4.  Smile!

That’s it!  If you feel like it something you wish not to venture then contact us for help.  We can help remotely or in-person (Charlotte Metro Area).  Remotely is the best.  It only takes a hour to configure and in most cases we can easily connect to your computer (as long as you have a high speed connection).

Have questions?  Just ask!  I will open this post to allow questions for the next 30-days.  After 30-days, contact us, and we will answer via e-mail.

Have a great day!
